Bi-Directional Mixing
Bi-Directional Mixers
While Caframo offers a range of overhead stirrers in terms of speed, torque and viscosity capabilities, only Caframo’s BDC2010 Reversing Digital and Caframo’s 1540 Crossover offer bi-directional mixing in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. The BDC2010 enables users to set the desired length of each cycle for specifically timed intervals in either direction of motion.

Agitation
Reversible stirring delivers precise agitation that is needed in certain applications. Think about an everyday washing machine which leverages this technique to clean our clothes. Why? Because it ensures maximum contact and friction of the clothing, soapy water, and impeller to help remove stains. In a laboratory setting, those same attributes of agitation may be required for chemical process mixing.
The BD2010’s agitation capability also ensures that a continuous vortex cannot form. This is especially useful where introducing air or bubbles is undesired, such as cannabis production of edibles or novel polymer development. Agitation also helps to keep particles from sticking to the walls of a container, which often occurs with uni-directional flow patterns. The turbulence and shear generated by agitation action can achieve the desired result of disaggregating particles, whether targeting polymer particles to a narrow size distribution, homogeneous blending of powders in paints, or formation of nanocomposite materials.
When the BDC2010’s agitation mode is not required, the 40-2010 rpm speed range and 90 Ncm maximum torque make this a powerful stirrer within a small benchtop footprint to meet a variety of mixing tasks without needing to switch out mixing equipment. When engaged, the BDC2010’s agitation mode is an effective solution which reduces particles sticking to walls, minimizes air bubbles, and maximizes particle friction to deliver a quality and uniform final product.
Bi-Directional Flow Patterns with a Single Propeller
By utilizing the Caframo BDC2010 Reversing Digital Stirrer’s reverse rotation capabilities, propellers can produce both downward and upward pumping flow patterns. This alleviates the need for additional purchases of right handed propeller blades. In applications which require bi-directional axial flow, utilizing Caframo’s BDC2010 will deliver both flows without changing impellers offering day-to-day time and efficiency gains. |
BDC2010 | Regardless of your mixing application’s needs, Caframo overhead stirrers can tackle virtually any lab, bench and pilot scale process due to their ability to handle large volumes over wide ranges of speed and torque. The adjustable chuck ensures compatibility for countless impeller options available, allowing for all types of mixing from homogenization to solids suspensions, as well as trials for scaling up or down using the same equipment. |
