Every Day is Earth Day at Caframo

As we observe this year’s Earth Day, we are celebrating the practices that highlight Caframo’s commitment for respect of the environment.  Sustainability is one of Caframo’s Core Values, creating a mandate that applies to all aspects of our operations and business decisions we make every day.

Our location within the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, is a constant reminder not only of the beauty of nature, but also our responsibility to preserve this unique ecosystem where we work, live, and play.  We have been working in partnership with the Niagara Escarpment Commission to ensure our future growth and development plans are in agreement with the Niagara Escarpment Plan.  Such frameworks protect this internationally recognized landform that contains abundant biodiversity, habitats for numerous Ontario’s Species at Risk, essential watersheds, and a rich geological history.

Notable changes in the past three years highlight Caframo’s commitment to sustainability.  There have been significant investments in updates to our manufacturing and office areas, such as updated insulation and windows to increase energy efficiencies of the building.   Low flush toilets and automatic lighting further reduce our energy and water use.  Last summer our septic system was upgraded to a biofast aeration septic system, which releases cleaner water after treatment.  An onsite composting program diverts employee lunch food waste from our landfill.  Most importantly, as products are developed and improved, parts and packaging are selected based on the recyclability properties of the materials.

Caframo will have additional impact partnering with this year’s corporate charity, the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association.  The funds we raise are planned for a new fully accessible workshop including a washroom, which will facilitate events such as building birdhouses, bird feeders, and bat houses for school, youth, and Community Living groups.  The workshop will give anyone, especially our next generations, the opportunity to learn about respecting nature and wildlife in our area.

While the above are direct actions Caframo takes, there are innumerable indirect impacts as a result of companies using Caframo overhead stirrers and accessories.  Personal care products are being created with natural ingredients using the 1850, providing options without harmful additives.   The 2010 has been involved in developing biofuel processes, while the 2002 has been reformulating industrial cleaning products from traditional harsh chemicals to better alternatives.  Wastewater processes are tested and optimized with the 250 to release effluent with minimized environmental impact.  Caframo overhead stirrers are involved in all these initiatives to make a sustainable world.
